The queue to board the ferry to Devonport, The Spirit of
Tasmania, was lengthy however we managed to board before the cut-off time. The
crossing was unremarkable, however the seas were high so the boat moved a lot
and we didn’t do much other than rest, which was facilitated by our having a
cabin (which we had not remembered booking). On arrival at Devonport there was
an announcement that the road to Cradle Mountain, our planned destination that
day, was closed by snow (!); in addition the weather forecast for the
subsequent destinations on the west coast was for heavy rain and winds, and so
we decided that instead of travelling around Tasmania anticlockwise, we would
do so in the other direction, hence headed east to the “drier” coast.

La cola para abordar el ferry a Devonport, The Spirit of
Tasmania, fue larga, sin embargo, logramos abordar antes de la hora límite. La
travesía no fue memorable, las olas fueron altas, así que el bote se movió

Our first night was in Launceston and the following day we went
into town for an excellent breakfast at Stillwater, and then walked up the
Cataract Gorge, conveniently across the road. We had a coffee at a café in the Penny
Royal Centre (a sort of “Disney-Tasmania”), then went to visit the Queen
Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG), that allow us to have a better idea of
the traditions of aboriginal people in the area. Later we made a visit to the National
Automobile Museum of Tasmania, with a good collection of cars of bikes.Via Little Blue Lake into Mount William National Park, where we
camped in isolation at the Deep Creek Campsite, enjoying the company of a
solitary wombat and some timid bunnys.

Nuestra primera noche fue en Launceston y al día siguiente
fuimos a la ciudad para tomar un excelente desayuno en Stillwater, luego
caminamos por la Catarata Gorge, convenientemente al otro lado de la carretera.
Tomamos un café en una cafetería en el Penny Royal Center (una especie de
"Disney-Tasmania"), luego fuimos a visitar el Museo y Galería de Arte
Queen Victoria (QVMAG), que nos permitió tener una idea mas clara de las tradiciones
de la población aborigen en la zona. Más tarde hicimos una visita al Museo
Nacional del Automóvil de Tasmania, con una buena colección de autos y motos. Vía Little Blue Lake hacia el Parque Nacional Mount William,
donde acampamos aislados en el Deep Creek, disfrutando de la compañía de un
wombat solitario y algunos conejos timidos.

The campsite is adjacent to the Eddystone Point Lighthouse so we
walked to the beach and climbed the access track to the lighthouse, in sunny
weather, albeit with strong winds. Further south we made our way along the Bay of
Fires, visiting the windswept Gardens, Taylor’s Beach, and Cosy Corner. Then to
Scamander Conservation Area, Denison’s Beach, and Bicheno rock beach and
blowhole.

El campamento
está al del faro Eddystone Point, así que caminamos hacia la playa y subimos la
ruta de acceso, con unb clima soleado, aunque con fuertes vientos. Más al sur,

Further south we entered Freycinet National Park, which we had
seen across the water from Swansea earlier in the year on our flying visits to
Tasmania, and which we would now be able to spend some time exploring. We
stayed at a campsite at Richardson Beach, immediately in front of the beach,
with beautiful views of the coasts. The
following day we walked across the pass to Wineglass Bay; an excellent walk
with excellent views from the pass lookout.

Más al sur, ingresamos al Parque Nacional Freycinet, que
habíamos visto a través del agua desde Swansea a principios de año en nuestras
visitas aéreas a Tasmania, y ahora finalmente podríamos pasar algún tiempo
explorándolo. Nos alojamos en un campamento en Richardson Beach, inmediatamente

Onward the following day we visited Cape Tourville and Sleepy
Bay on our way to Orford, a short distance beyond Triabunna. The next day we
went for breakfast to the Orford Café Diner
and were disappointed to find that they no longer offer scallop pies,
although we did enjoy excellent scallop pies elsewhere in Tasmania).. We then
headed to the Maria Island ferry dock in Triabunna. We had considered an
overnight stay on the island however would have had to bring a tent which we
did not have, and so chose to make only a day trip. This proved enough to walk
two of the trails: the Painted Cliffs/Oast House walk and the Reservoir Circuit,
We enjoyed seeing a variety of environments and saw lots of wombats as well as
bird life.

Al día siguiente, visitamos Cape Tourville y Sleepy Bay en
nuestro camino a Orford, a poca distancia más allá de Triabunna. Al día
siguiente fuimos a desayunar al Orford Café Diner y nos decepcionó descubrir
que ya no ofrecen pasteles de vieira, aunque sí disfrutamos de excelentes
pasteles de vieira en otras partes de Tasmania). Luego nos dirigimos al muelle
del ferry de Maria Island en Triabunna. Habíamos considerado pasar una noche en
la isla, sin embargo, habríamos tenido que traer una carpa que no teníamos, por
lo que decidimos hacer solo una excursión de un día. Esto demostró ser
suficiente para recorrer dos de los senderos: la caminata Painted Cliffs / Oast
House y el Circuito del embalse. Disfrutamos viendo una variedad de entornos y
vimos muchos wombats y aves.

Returning to Triabunna we
continued south to Eaglehawk Neck, camping near Pirates Bay, and upon
learning that it was possible to see Little Penguins we went down to the beach,
where we were duly rewarded with the arrival of the penguins, emerging from the
water as secret agents just after dark, making up for the cold and darkness by
the time they chose to come ashore.

Volviendo a Triabunna, continuamos hacia el sur hasta Eaglehawk
Neck, acampamos cerca de Pirates Bay, y al enterarnos de que era posible ver Little
Penguins, bajamos a la playa, donde fuimos debidamente recompensados con la
llegada de los pingüinos, emergiendo del agua como agentes secretos justo despues
del anochecer, compensando con esto el frio y la oscuridad del momento en que
eligieron arrivar.

The campsite was close to the Tessellated Pavement State Reserve,
which we explored the following morning, after which we continued southward
along the coast, to enjoy Tasman Arch, the Devil’s Kitchen, the Blowhole,
Fossil Bay Lookout, and then Waterfall Bay, walkgin a variety of trails with
great views.

El campamento estaba cerca de la Reserva Estatal Tessellated
Pavement, que exploramos a la mañana siguiente, después de lo cual continuamos

After an interesting visit to the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo we then
headed for Remarkable Cave, after which we were ready to make our way to Hobart.

nos dirigimos a la Cueva Notable, después de lo cual estábamos listos para ir a
Hobart.

The decision to start our Tasmania circuit eastbound took us
into beautiful scenery, with weather which, although windy and occasionally
wet, was far better than that on the west coast during the same period.
